Human rights activist and global President of One Love Foundation, Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor has condemned the action of the police officers seen in the viral video where the Chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal, Mr Danladi Umar was caught physically assaulting a security guard attached to popular Abuja shopping complex, Banex plaza.
Eholor, in a chat with THE WHISPERER on Friday morning in Abuja, said the action of the officers was an embarrassment to the entire police force whose image and integrity were already questionable.
He wondered why the officers whose primary responsibility was to protect lives and properties would watch a government official assault a citizen to the point of killing the person with the police not doing anything.
“I’m ashamed of what happened at Banex Plaza. I saw the video clip where officers of the Nigeria Police Force(NPF) were supporting Danladi Umar to assault an innocent citizen who was just discharging his assigned duty as a guard.
“You see how complacent our officers can be? They prefer protecting known thieves and looters whose actions has adversely affected the nation.
“The IG or Abuja Command of the Nigeria Police Force must probe the actions of those officers or we sue them to court. We cannot continue to tolerate unprofessional conducts and anarchy from our officers who are paid from taxpayers money.
Eholor further questioned the body language of the presidency, the police force and members of the house of representatives from Plateau state for failing to defend their constituent.
“I’ve said it severally that some of our legislators are too weak and unserious. How can you allow your constituent to be ridiculed in the manner Danladi Umar subjected Clement to? And you can speak up about it? The people elected you to be there and so, of you cannot defend them, its better for you to resign.
“Eholor urged the Inspector General of Police to immediately withdraw his men attached to the CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar.
“I’m so worried because up till this moment, the presidency is yet to say anything; they’re pretending not to have seen the video or the action of the CCT Chairman. Even the police are equally mute. Its important the IG withdraw his men from Mr. Danladi Umar. It is annoying to have or see police officers around him.” He said.
