A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Chima Onyeso Chukwu has urged the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress to pick an Ikwerre man as their candidate in 2023 governorship election.

Onyeso, who is a staunch supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, stated this in an interview with The Whisperer in his Asokoro Abuja house.

According to Onyeso, who is from Etche LGA of the state, the APC in Rivers is largely disadvantaged with a candidate from the riverine areas of the state as no right thinking Ikwerre or Igbo man from the state would support such a candidate.

He said the crisis ravaging the party is as a result of the wrong choices of the party leaders picking candidate from the riverine areas.

“With due respect to my brothers from the riverine areas of Rivers, we love them as Rivers people, but the Ikwerres and other Igbo speaking parts are highly advantaged politically in Rivers state.

“It’s difficult to win election here without fielding an Igbo man. Even Chibuike Amaechi who is our leader knows that.

“The crisis in our party is fuelled by our brothers here who don’t want the APC to succeed. They’ve said severally that they can’t support someone who doesn’t speak Igbo irrespective of party affiliation. We have lots of Ikwerre, Etche, Ogba, Egbema, Omuma people in APC working against the party.

“Its obvious the PDP will field Rivers man from Ikwerre; therefore, the APC must do same to reclaim the state. I know my people and how they play politics. It didn’t start today.

This writer is a complete fool and obtuse, what has igbo get to do in rivers state as if ikwerre people are igbo. The fact is that ikwerre as a tribe is the dormant tribe in rivers state, just like at the old rivers state that kalabari people was the largest tribe till Bayelsa was separated.
