These are some of the roads the Ikpeazu led Abia State Government has recently reconstructed and commissioned.
As of truth, these roads were in terrible and heartrending conditions before the recent reconstruction. I heartily commend Gov. Ikpeazu for this achievement.
In sane climes where the existence and provision of such amenities are considered and treated as settled issues, this would not be seen as anything extraordinary. But in a prismatic society such as ours where the government and, indeed, the nation state do not exist for the good of the citizenry, and where the citizens have given up on the state, it is a lofty achievement worthy of commendation. Therefore, I commend the governor for this feat.
At this moment, what matters to me and perhaps, every other Abian who have had the sweet-bitter experience of paddling and waddling through the waterlogged roads like two-legged aquatic animals is not the length of the roads. Not even the cost. What matters to me is ensuring that the job is done and with the best quality obtainable.
Finally, while I make no prevarication in appreciating and applauding Gov. Ikpeazu for doing what he is elected to do, I detest the culture of gathering our poor mothers and fathers from everywhere to dance and sing in the name of road commissioning. Apart from the huge amounts of public funds expended in this macabre dance of absurdity, this new culture is anachronistic to modernity and portrays our people as a group who is alien to the provision of modernity amenities.
For a government that is rightly spending so much money and efforts in tackling Covid-19 pandemic to gather a mammoth crowd all in the name of commissioning roads is, to say the very least, self-defeating.
Once again, thank you, Dr. Ikpeazu for these roads but like Oliver Twist, as always, I ask for more especially, in the areas of Aba-Owerri Rd, Omuma Road, Ohanko Road, Ngwa Road and Port Harcourt Road.
For the umpteenth time, do these and go down the annals of history as the first Abia Governor that did what Napoleon could not do.
