Ahead of 2023 governorship election in Abia State, a political think tank group known as Mben Political Assembly (MPA) Ohafia clan, in Ohafia LGA has resolved to work as a team ahead of the 2023 general election.

The group comprising political leaders from the clan, technocrats, scholars, clerics, royal fathers in conjunction with other community associations in the clan such as Ohafia Improvement Union Inc., Ohafia National Organization- USA, Ohafia Summit, said the decision to unite Ohafia sons and daughters politically ahead of 2023 governorship election became imperative because lack of political unity had previously cost the clan so much that it was said to be “politically disunited and torn apart”.

Lucas Eme Uche Onu, MPA President,
Rev Daniel Imo  from ONO USA, among others, the group were confident that an Mben son or daughter would succeed Governor Okezie Ikpeazu come 2023.

The group said “All Mben are united in our resolve to compete with other interested clans and work very hard to produce an Ohafia person to succeed OVI as Governor come 2023. We, with one heart and mind, henceforth refuse to be labelled politically disunited and torn apart.”

“All Mben politicians have agreed to put any differences behind and work together in the political interest of our clan.”

The group also promised to negotiate and dialogue with other clans, interest groups and political stakeholders within the state for their support.

“Recognizing that we must start engaging with other clans, interest groups and political stakeholders outside Ohafia, we hereby direct three standing committees to be set up to get to work immediately so we tackle this.”

“Since the electoral law is yet to allow independent candidacy, all aspiring politicians of Mben extraction are encouraged to join political parties of their choice and to step out and begin consultations and building their political structures.”
