The Member representing the good people of Oyi/Ayamelum federal Constituency in the House of Representative, Hon(Barr.)Vincent Ekenedilichukwu Ofumelu had on the floor of the house moved a motion for the rehabilitation of Aguleri-Otuocha-Ezuanaku-Omo-Amasi-Adani Federal road.
While moving the motion at the floor of the house, Hon(Barr.) Ofumelu told the house that:
Note: “that the Aguleri-Otuocha-Ezuanaku-Omar-Omasi-Adani road which was constructed by the administration of late President Shehu Shagari in the early 1980’s links the agragrian communities of Ayamelum local Government Area of Anambrarain and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, which are the food baskets of the two neighbouring States”;
Concerned: “that the continuous neglect of the road by both the Government of the States and the federal government has left it in a state of of disrepair and thus turned to a safe haven for all forms of criminal activities and a source of major environmental degradation”;
Worried :”about the quantity of agricultural produce that go to waste in the course of converynance to the markets due to the bad road,which would have fed up to 10% of Nigerians ,especially with the ban on imported food items like rice ,in a bid to boost local production”;
Cognizant :”that the vision for the creation of the Anambra/Imo rivers Basin Development Authority to support agricultural initiatives for increased food production for local consumption and export has been defeated due to the deplorable state of the roads in the areas;
Disturbed : “that despite persistent cries of residents and commuters for remedial actions on the road,nothing has been done by successive governments to ameliorate the situation, leaving the people to undergo hardships while communiting to their various destinations with attendant resentment against the government;
Resolve to:
(i) Urge the federal roads maintenance agency (FERMA) to carry out rehabilitation work on the Aguleri-Otuocha-Ezunanaku-Omor-Omasi-Adani Road;
(ii)mandate the committees on federal roads maintenance agency (FERMA) and appropriations to ensure that the project is accommodated in the 2020 budget estimates
The House of Representatives therefore resolved that the motion be sent to house committee on FERMA and house committee on works for the inclusion in the 2020 budget.
