One Love Foundation(OLF), a human rights advocacy group, has called on the authorities in the United States, United Kingdom and countries in the European Union (EU) to extend their travel visa ban to corrupt Nigerian politicians, civil servants and security officials found to have compromised the integrity of the office entrusted to them by stealing public funds meant for the development of the country.
In a statement signed by the President of the foundation, Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor, he said the recent visa ban imposed by the US and UK on some politicians for their roles in electoral violence can only achieve the desired results if such sanctions are extended to errant politician and civil servant who embezzles public funds.
The group also canvased the extension of the ban to compromised security officials who connive with politicians and civil servants to steal money meant to secure the nation for pecuniary gains
“We write to commend the United States Government for the decisive action to impose visa ban on individuals who participated in manipulating and subverting the will of Nigerians during elections. We are making a passionate appeal that same treatment be extended to corrupt politicians, government officials, corrupt security personnel who are looting the wealth of Nigerians, leaving dividends of democracy comprehensively abysmal.”
“It is imperative to note that, this visa ban will send a strong message to those who intend to join politics or contest for public office with the sole aim of stealing public funds instead of making developmental impacts by investing in the future of generations unborn. The sad situation of their looting is the deteriorating security challenges faced by Nigerians, while our health care and education sectors are in comatose.”
The group said there were ready to act as whistleblower to the international community to help fight corruption in Nigeria.
“We are most obliged and willing to provide your office with information regarding corrupt government officials.”
